Analyst, Derivative Operations

What is the opportunity?

The Global Equity Derivative Administration of RBC CM Business & Client Services business division is looking to hire Analyst, Derivative Operations. Primary focus is on execution within defined parameters, with some expansion based on developing capabilities and/or experiences, in partnership with more experienced staff. Manage the day-to-day operational support for all OTC Equity Derivative trading groups globally.  Provide operational support for DCG, CMA, GELP and Central Funding.  Handle multiple back office functions for Ds Inc. and Alternative Assets trading when needed as well.  Ensure all responsibilities are carried out in accordance with RBC Code of Conduct, RBC Values and Guiding Principles ensuring adherence to RBC Privacy principles.

 

What will you do?

  • Responsible for following established guidelines and identifying and resolving problems. Individuals at this level are expected to use some independence of thought but to refer more complex problems to supervisors or other experts. Individuals would be expected to contribute to work flow or process change and redesign, and to form a strong basic understanding of the specific function. May also be accountable for regular reporting or process administration as ”owner”.
  • Manage all aspects of OTC Derivative trade validation, maintenance, affirmation, settlement and regulatory reporting.
  • Perform trade validation when new trades are booked and identify and escalate issues as needed.
  • Validate process and settle all periodic events to ensure the integrity of the entire trade life cycle.
  • Perform both daily or routine regulatory reporting tasks as well as ad-hoc requests and projects.
  • Perform position and cash reconciliation for desks in Sophis where required.
  • Liaise with counterparties to ensure payments are settled as scheduled.
  • Perform trade affirmation with counterparties to minimize risk.
  • Track and monitor outgoing and incoming payments with counterparties and escalate payment failures when required.
  • Perform interest claim and counterclaim analysis and provide to trading partners for approval when required.
  • Be able to competently support other trading groups in the Global Equity Derivatives space when colleagues are out of the office.
  • Perform ad-hoc request support and analysis when requested.
  • Understand the impact of your responsibilities as they relate to the desks and trades you support

 

What do you need to succeed?

  • Demonstrate/develop proficiency in all types of OTC products including: Equity swaps, credit default swaps, variance swaps, options, asset swaps, interest rate swap, forwards, equity linked notes, commodity linked notes, accumulators, deccumulators, IOS, POS, FX settlements and any new products that come to market in the equity derivative asset class
  • Demonstrate proficiency in all calculations used to support any products in your support range
  • Demonstrate knowledge of internal procedures and controls. Ensure all procedures are followed to the letter and escalate any issues which arise while following said procedures and controls.
  • Demonstrate the ability to quickly identify potential problems that need immediate attention and/or escalation. Be able to allocate time and resources to correct address any issues as needed
  • Understand the importance of our team concept.  Establish long-lasting organizational relationships that will foster a productive work environment
  • Understand the relevant technology and applications that are required to excel in analyst role. Sophis, MS Excel and MS Outlook are the critical applications used on a daily basis
