Job Description:

The individual in this role will lead  financial planning activities to achieve strategic and financial objectives. The objective is to move to continuous dynamic planning with more predictive skills and ability to conduct various scenarios modeling to provide insights to support the business areas in achieving their strategic and financial objectives.  This approach will include more drill down on business drivers and analysis of market developments to create insights to support leadership in optimizing their businesses.  .  The role will partner with Canadian business and functional leadership areas and Canadian strategic team to help bridge strategic priorities and financial objectives with coordination across the business on prioritization and optimization of key initiatives.  The role will also partner with the business unit and functional areas to identify and execute on optimization initiatives within and across business areas.

Role Summary

Reporting to the Senior Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) this role is accountable for driving business planning and analysis. This role will also support the financial management, the transformation of our planning process and be responsible to deliver new insights on value creation from this investment.

Position Purpose

  • The lead on transformation of the business planning process, acting as change agent across the finance team and able to connect with our strategy.

  • Responsible for leading the business planning process, evolving to more dynamic forward plan linked with business strategy this includes execution and modeling to help achieve BG objectives including the adoption of a more driver-based approach.

  • Setting a vision and leading the transformation to a dynamic planning approach with our forward looking approach.

  • Partnering with Digital Enterprise and CXO Finance to support the implementation of Block Funding in Canada, with a focus on evolving the Business Plan and CPOC governance to meet these changing needs.

What you’ll need to be successful

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills

  • Business mindset with desire to drive business value

  • 10 to 15+ years experience with Financial Services industry as asset but not requirement

  • MBA or CFA qualifications would be beneficial;

  • Strong leadership skills with an ability to work across multiple functions and business groups

  • Connects the big picture, understands the business and manages complexity across deliverables;

  • Drives for results, optimizes work processes and aligns work to outcomes;

  • Focuses on key internal clients and their needs at senior levels;

  • Operates well in ambiguity and is resilient in changing situations;

  • Works effectively together through engagement and influencing others, collaborates effectively and optimizes talent;

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

  • Excellent financial and business analytic capabilities;

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office in support of Executive and Board materials.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
