Data Analyst (12 Months), Winter 2021 PEY Opportunities

What is the opportunity?

RBC is hiring for Data Analysts, PEY interns across different teams including:

  • Group Risk Management (GRM) Portfolio Management & Credit Strategies (PM&CS)
  • Personal & Commercial Banking Home Equity Financing (HEF)
  • Personal & Commercial Banking Mutual Fund Distribution & Strategy

You will be given an opportunity to work in a fluid, highly skilled team helping us solve big problems and understand the opportunities and issues. You will strive to create and deliver superior insights and recommendations driven by data, using a range of effective methods that grow profitable business and drive prudent risk guidelines and policy.  Using best-in-class data mining techniques, you will support data-driven business decisions by identifying, understanding, organizing, and presenting data trends.­

What will you do?

We’re looking for individuals that have a mix of strong quantitative and problem solving skills, communicate well and are able to work through complex and ambiguous challenges.  You need to be a self-driven and hyper engaged individual that’s willing to learn finance, P&L modelling, and risk management from world class teams in a fast paced and challenging environment.  You may have an opportunity to rotate across multiple teams and work on different projects.  For example, within the PM&CS team past PEY interns have worked on the data modelling team, as well as a credit strategy team

  • Leverage predictive analytic techniques and financial models, for example to forecast profitability and credit losses within the retail portfolio (e.g. credit cards), including forecasting of risk (write-offs), credit balances, attrition, etc.
  • Be an architect of our tools and processes; increasing automation and sophistication and interconnections to our data
  • Develop a subject matter expertise, in all manner of business and risk data mining activities (activities include, but are not limited to data analysis, aggregation, interpretation and recommendation)
  • Provide analytical support on Ad Hoc requests originating from various stakeholders
  • Participate in specialized strategic projects

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Enrolled in a quantitative degree/combination of experience that demonstrates mastery of data analytics, math, computer science, financial engineering, modeling, statistics, or complex problem solving (e.g. Statistics, Finance, Engineering, Economics, Business Administration, Computer Science)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills – able to effectively work in a team environment
  • Effective and equally conversant in business and technical environments
  • Strong data manipulation capability and ability to create financial models / use financial formulas

Nice-to-have

  • Proficiency in programming and/or database and/or visualization programs (e.g. SAS, SQL, MS Access, R, Python, Tableau) and other software such as Tableau, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Experience in the Financial industry
  • Demonstrated leadership in cross-functional environment
  • Experience with data modeling and database administration
