Job Description: Reporting to the AVP, Par & Adjustable Valuation, the successful candidate will lead all aspects of Adjustable Life & Health Valuation within Insurance Solutions.

This includes management of the actuarial valuations, modeling and analysis, as well as various projects for Adjustable products.

The successful candidate will also lead the transformation of Adjustable valuation for IFRS17 reporting by providing thought leadership on various work streams, especially on the business & financial implications and operational readiness work-streams, in addition to generating data based insights for unlocking potential business value in Adjustable.

The Adjustable Life & Health insurance business includes a variety of adjustable products ranging from traditional life, universal life and long term care insurance.

The business has around $3 billion in actuarial reserves, $8 billion in gross face amount, and $1 billion in annual health benefits.

What will you do?

Lead the transformation of Adjustable valuation for IFRS 17 reporting by providing thought leadership on various work streams, especially the business and financial implications as well as operational readiness work streams.

Unlock potential business value by developing a deep understanding of the Adjustable business and generating data based insights.

Manage the production and understanding of results relating to quarterly financial reporting including reserves, required capital, and source of earnings.

Develop, review and recommend changes to valuation and actuarial models ensuring compliance with the MEUC policy.

Manage a team of two actuarial associates contributing to the development of high performing talent.

Provide actuarial expertise and collaborate effectively with key business partners including Corporate, Canadian Actuarial, Pricing, Finance, Audit, ALM, and IT.

Provide support for new product/pricing initiatives as well as the adjustable product review process and implementation.

Support production of other key deliverables including management reporting, OSFI reporting, and AAR.

Take ownership for the controls and reconciliations pertaining to integrity of models, reserves and quarterly net income.

Help ensure compliance (including signoffs) with the Actuarial Governance Policy and Guidelines, CIA standards of practice, OSFI requirements and any other applicable SLF policies and guidelines.

What do you need to succeed?

FCIA/FSA designation with 5 years of actuarial experience.

Effective leader with the desire to build and manage a diverse & inclusive high performing team.

Excellent communication skills.

Strong technical, analytical and problem solving skills.

Manage multiple priorities with a commitment to high quality and meeting deadlines.

Eager to challenge the status quo with a continuous improvement mindset.

Dedicated to personal development including the willingness to accept expanding leadership opportunities.

Knowledge of insurance products and/or IFRS17 is an asset.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.

It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.

In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.
