Fixed Income Portfolio Advisor


This is a Contract position in Toronto, ON posted January 6, 2021.

What is the opportunity?

In joining RBC as a Fixed Income Portfolio Advisor, you will develop strategies and implement ideas in the service and support of the Investment Advisors of RBC Dominion Securities and their fixed income book of business.  In this highly visible role you are looked to as an expert, offering thought leadership and objective opinions on the markets and specific investments.  You will complete portfolio reviews and assist in the development of portfolio proposals and new business pitches.  You will also be offered exposure to US and international fixed income securities.

What will you do?

  • Complete portfolio analysis on all fixed income securities including Government, Corporate and High Yield bonds, Preferred Shares, GIC’s, Strips, etc., for existing or potential clients.
  • Collaboratively digest economic and market data with colleagues to develop strategies and communicate fulfillment options in written and oral forums.
  • Demonstrate keen thought leadership capabilities by expressing investment views that surpass what is reported in the media.  Educate and explain.
  • Contribute timely, meaningful insights to the morning and midday publications, as well as broader contributions to client friendly documents.
  • Assist Investment Advisors in identifying and implementing appropriate investment strategies, by providing scalable solutions or one-on-one support as needed.
  • Interact with the Fixed Income Trading Desk to discuss market trends, trade ideas and relative value opportunities.
  • Lead presentations to DS branches, clients, industry groups, and internal departments.
  • Some travel throughout Canada is required.

What do you need to succeed?

Must Have

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a major in Finance or Economics with 5+ years of related experience
  • Thorough understanding of all Fixed Income Products
  • A creative and curious mindset with an passion for the financial markets
  • Excellent presentation skills with strong written and verbal communication
  • Canadian Securities Course (CSC) and Conduct and Practices Handbook (CPH)  

Nice to Have

  • MBA and/or CFA
  • Bilingual (English/French)
  • Previous experience in a fixed income portfolio management environment, or the trading side of a fixed income desk
  • Previous experience working with Investment Advisors or in a retail client setting
