Portfolio Manager – Fixed Income

This is a Contract position in Toronto, ON posted October 6, 2020.

The Portfolio Manager, Fixed Income actively manages fixed income portfolios across various institutional and / or retail mandates while adhering to the Company’s investment guidelines.  The incumbent is guided by defined goals and objectives and works under the general supervision of the Head of Fixed Income and Private Placements.

 

Impact Statement

  • Ensures investment activities support a positive return for the portfolios
  • Ensures regular client meetings to explain/detail investment strategy/performance

 

Responsibilities include

  • Manages an investment portfolio consisting of two or more of the following investment instruments – investment grade bonds, high yield bonds, mortgages, real estate, money market and currencies
  • Assists in developing an appropriate asset mix policy pursuant to mandate, portfolio objectives, and investment guidelines
  • Develops strategies for investment of assets and formulates composition of specified portfolio
  • Selects individual securities for the portfolio; determines the appropriate time to purchase or sell
  • Monitors portfolio investment performance
  • Assists in the evaluation of new investment products from qualitative and quantitative perspectives
  • Monitors national and international economic and market conditions
  • On an ad-hoc basis provides expert input on special projects or corporate initiatives
  • Meets with clients to review investment activities or to develop new business

 

Knowledge / Experience

  • 4 – 7 years of work experience in fixed income portfolio management including financial analysis, credit analysis, relative value analysis as well as selection and trading of fixed income securities.
  • Strong knowledge of bonds and money market instruments
  • Experience with hedging strategies and derivatives is desirable
  • General knowledge of mortgages, real estate, currencies and derivatives

 

Education / Professional Courses / Certification

  • Completion of a university degree with courses in finance, investments, economics, mathematics, statistics, ethics, quantitative methods
  • CFA charterholder is desirable
