Manager, Focused Ultrasound lab Next Gen FUS Project

The Focused Ultrasound Laboratory at the Sunnybrook Research Institute​ is looking for a committed and motivated individual to fill the role of Program manager for the Weston Family Foundation funded Big Ideas Project titled:” NextGen Focused-Ultrasound Brain Treatment System”

The Focused Ultrasound Laboratory

Our group is the leading academic laboratory in the world in the development of technology for completely non-invasive image-guided surgery and targeted drug delivery using focused ultrasound. The technology being developed in our group will be used to treat benign or malignant tumours and a variety of neurological disorders non-invasively. Many of our projects are conducted with close collaboration with scientists and clinicians from many different specialties and thus, the environment is highly collaborative and connected.

The Position

The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary fast-paced team of engineers and scientists to develop the next generation of transcranial focused-ultrasound therapy system. As Manager of the Next Gen FUS Project, you will work in close collaboration with the project Principle Investigator manage the following responsibilities:

  • Providing communications and reports the Weston Family Foundation
  • Overseeing development of a one-of-a-kind medical system for clinical treatments
  • Making key decisions based on recommendations and input from lead engineers/scientists
  • Defining milestones and creating action plans
  • Managing project timelines and goals
  • Facilitating major engineering decisions to ensure delivery of milestones on time
  • Managing recruitment and training of new personnel
  • Conducting periodic team member reviews and interviews
  • Organizing and developing agendas for project and team meetings
  • Conducting project and team meetings and follow up with action items
  • Facilitating close collaboration between software, hardware, and transducer teams
  • Managing communications to make sure everyone knows what they need to work on
  • Managing of Day-to-day operations and experiments
  • Providing resources needed to complete tasks
  • Managing safety aspects of the system and designing protocols for test and verification

Essential Qualifications

  • Masters or PhD degree in engineering, physics or related science discipline.
  • Industry experience as an engineer, a researcher or a manager
  • Knowledge of safety standards (eg DO254, IEC 60601) and product development life cycles
  • Experience with medical device development, testing and approval process.
  • Experience working with hardware and software
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team and communicate effectively
  • Excellent inter-personal and leadership qualities
  • Passion to contribute to cutting-edge medical device development

Additional Qualifications

  • P.Eng desirable
  • Experience using requirements management software eg IBM doors
  • Experience using document control
  • Experience working in ultrasound, audio or signal processing highly desirable
  • Prior experience leading a team
