We currently have a Regular Part Time opportunity for a Registered Nurse in the Transfusion Medicine Clinic at our Bayview Campus.

Summary of Duties

Responsible for the triaging, coordination and provision of primary care to medically complex patients requiring blood product transfusions, iron infusions, IVIG infusions and therapeutic phlebotomy to maximize TMC resources. The main functions of the RN include, but are not limited to patient assessment and education, early recognition and intervention in adverse reactions, and patient advocacy in accordance with standards of the College of Nurses, the Person Centred Care concept, and the Mission, Vision and Values of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. This position will be required to provide coverage in Same Day Admissions as necessary.

Qualifications/Skills

  • BScN preferred
  • Current registration with CNO
  • Current BCLS; ACLS an asset
  • Canadian Association in Oncology CON(c) Certification an asset
  • Minimum two (2) years oncology nursing experience required
  • Competent in blood product transfusion and transfusion reaction interventions required
  • Venipuncture and IV insertion certification mandatory
  • Competency in central venous access devices
  • Knowledge of electronic Positive Patient Identification scanning an asset
  • Computer literacy essential
  • Two-to-five (2-5) years recent post-surgical care experience an asset for cross training purposes
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and stressful environment in a positive and solutions-based manner
  • Ability to integrate and apply critical thinking skills to patient care
  • Able to function independently and collaboratively as a member of an inter-professional team
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education within the past two (2) years
  • Demonstrated commitment to organizational initiatives such as i-lead and best practice champion
  • Demonstrated ability in: interpersonal skills; oral and written communication; organizational skills; priority setting skills; problem solving; decision making; conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to Person Centred Care approach and principles
