Virtual Reality and Behavioural Neuroscience Research Laboratory



Position Description:

The Slaight Family Centre is a donor funded clinical research program for youth in transition, who are at-risk for, or at early stages of severe mental illness. The main goal of the Slaight Family Centre is to put more young people with severe mental illness on a path to recovery, through the development of new treatments, enhancement of early detection efforts, and clinical brain research.  The Virtual Reality and Behavioural Neuroscience (VRBN) Research Laboratory is a clinical research lab affiliated with the Slaight Centre that aims to advance the understanding and treatment of motivation and cognitive deficits in schizophrenia and other major mental illnesses using innovative computerized and virtual reality technologies.

We are seeking a full-time  contract Research Analyst who will provide support to the VRBN lab’s research projects, and support coordination with the Slaight Centre’s research team/projects. Reporting to the Slaight Centre Research Manager and Head of the VRBN lab, your responsibilities will include: independent participant screening and recruitment; scheduling of participant study visits; clinical and cognitive assessments of study participants; evaluation of participants using computerized and virtual reality-based assessments; participant preparation for MRI and laboratory assessments; and the administration of brain stimulation treatments.  Within this role, you will also assist in maintaining participant study records, analysis of study data, searching electronic research resources, and preparing data for presentations and peer-reviewed research papers. Within these functions, you will also be required to assist with the following: Regulatory submissions, preparing budget and progress reports and power point presentations. Other administrative duties are also required. You will help support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable CAMH policies, as well as all regulatory and legislative requirements. This position is located at 250 College Street.



The successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree in psychology or neuroscience combined with one (1) year of relevant clinical or research experience with individuals and/or families with mental health and addiction issues.  Previous experience in administration of neuropsychological assessments (e.g., MATRICS, BACS, etc.), structured diagnostic interviewing (e.g., SCID) and clinical rating scales (e.g., SAPS, SANS, BPRS, CDSS, HAM-D, AES) are required. Candidates will also have demonstrated ability in the use of electronic data capture programs for participant research data collection (e.g., REDCap), and administration of computerized and/or virtual reality-based assessments.  Proficiency in advanced statistical analyses using statistical packages and programming languages (SPSS, R) and data interpretation, literature review and synthesis skills, as well as word-processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software is required. The ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and diverse stakeholders is essential. Demonstrated communications skills (both oral and written) are required as is the ability to explain complex issues in plain language.  The candidate will be detail oriented, well organized, produce high-quality and accurate work while meeting program deadlines, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Candidates require the ability to work effectively in a variety of settings with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.

Salary Range:  $24.60 – $32.81 per hour.
