Director, Enterprise Data Domains, Data Office

Purpose:

The mandate of the Data Office (DO) is to implement data governance in order to drive the reliability and usability of our data across the enterprise.  We are currently undergoing a multi-year transformation journey consisting of initiatives to build enterprise data capabilities and mobilize domains.

 

The Enterprise Data Domain team is a unit within the DO that will develop and implement Data Management (DM) strategy and build capabilities to capture, consolidate, enhance, govern and share core information across the enterprise for operational and analytical needs.  This information will include Customer, Account and Product data including the relationships between them.  As part of this initiative and to support the ongoing requirements to improve the data quality of the enterprise, this role will also implement an Enterprise Reference Data Management (RDM) capability to meet the expanding needs of the organization.

 

 

Mandate:

Reporting to the SVP and Chief Data Officer, the Director Enterprise Data Domains will provide strategic direction, leadership and oversight in defining and managing the Enterprise Data Domains.  The incumbent will drive the strategy for three key Enterprise Data Domains, Customer, Product/Account and Reference, across the enterprise and ensure alignment with business line strategies and requirements.  

 

Key Accountabilities:

Data Champion – Senior business leader accountable for data risk and effective management of data

•    Ensure data policy and standards are followed for the Enterprise domains
•    Establish data strategy for each of the Enterprise Data Domains and delivery data initiatives inline with the strategy
•    Approve and implement CDE prioritization, DQ rules definition, metadata documentation etc.
•    Responsible to ensure data quality issues and reference data activities impacting domain are resolved

 

General:

 

This role will be responsible for accomplishing strategic data initiatives across all the lines of business and corporate functions.  This includes:

•    Develop strategy roadmap using business value best practices for implementing  Enterprise solution for Customer, Product, Account and Reference Data domains
•    Work with business and techonology teams to develop future state requirements, vendor and product analysis and own RFP processes.
•    Provide leadership in ongoing work with stakeholders across the enterprise mobilizing the domains and identifying the CDEs
•    Review current RDM tools and processes, propose alternatives from tooling, business processes and change management perspective
•    Work with stakeholders in operationalization of Data Management solutions.  Identify impacted business processes, change management and communication 
•    Develop and maintain productive business relationships with internal partners and external vendors
•    Use relationships with broader Scotiabank community to find opportunities to leverage the benefits of the Enterprise data domains to meet business needs

 

Accountabilities: 

•    Lead and execute Data Management initiatives within the context of the Enterprise Data Domains 
•    Support strategic planning and cross-functional initiatives across the Data Office to ensure delivery of our enterprise mandate
•    Support the design of our data strategy that allows Scotiabank to use data as an asset enterprise-wide
•    Establish and maintain stakeholder and executive management relationships to effectively influence strategic priorities 
•    Develop risk mitigated strategies to ensure successful implementation of the specific projects
•    Work with other Business leads to provide consultation and identify cross impacts/dependencies across the various initiatives

 

Leadership and Management Responsibilities:

•    Provide leadership and effective management of staff 
•    Set appropriate context when assigning work to ensure that individuals roles support the achievement of the DO’s priorities and Scotiabank’s overall goals
•    Building team and individual capabilities by providing development opportunities 
•    Creating a positive work environment and being an effective role model
•    Ensure compliance with policies,  standards, guidelines and controls by applying policies and controls consistently 
•    Hiring the  right people to align individual capabilities with job requirements

 

Education / Experience:

•    Program management experience
•    Experience in setting direction/strategy execution and delivery of the Enterprise Data Domains (Customer, Account, Product, Reference Data)
•    Comprehensive knowledge of data management and principles sufficient to analyze and interpret complex concepts 
•    Strategic thinking and strong ability to create an effective Data Management Strategy that will create a competitive edge for the Scotiabank
•    Strong relationship management with an ability to establish productive relationships between various leaders, departments and partners across the organization
•    Ability to manage significant transformation change initiatives while maintaining a high level of employee engagement and focus
•    Well-developed communication skills including precise articulation of ideas and opinions in order to prepare detailed business cases and proposals
•    Solutions oriented and ability to develop and create innovative solutions to critical business or organizational data issues
