STATUS: Permanent Full-Time
Salary: H007 – $72,805 – $91,000.00 (based on experience and competencies)

Working within the Digital Team at University Health Network, the Enterprise Messaging Service (EMS) Application Developer is responsible for:

  • Designing, developing and maintaining internal software modules for custom clinical software
  • Providing internal engineering level support for these modules
  • Helping to build interfaces between systems, using standard methods (i.e. HL7, FHIR, etc) or via custom development as needed
  • Collaborating with our clinical stakeholders to assess change requests and future needs and ensuring that applications developed meet functional specifications
  • Programs in various languages and databases for client/server and web-based applications and systems
  • Java, J2EE, Google Web Toolkit (GWT), Hibernate, JavaScript & CSS, C++, Open GL, MS SQL Server, MySQL, and other programming languages, databases and technologies.
  • Utilizes the following tools for source code, deployment and application lifecycle management: Maven, Svn/GIT, Jenkins CI, Ansible,  Atlassian suite (Bitbucket , Confluence, JIRA)
  • Dev-ops/administration using Linux admin, containers (LXD, Docker, etc.), shell scripts (awk, sed, grep, etc…)
  • Participates in designing, coding, testing, debugging, and configuring software.
  • Knowledge and experience using Enterprise Service Bus (i.e. JBoss Fuse, MuleSoft, Cloverleaf, Biz Talk, Rhapsody)
  • Knowledge and experience using Azure DevOps Server Hands-on knowledge of Health Level 7 (HL7) and Extensive Markup Language (XML) messaging standards and structures is required;
  • Strong knowledge of HL7 and Web Services (FHIR and RESTful) Experience in large IT clinical transformation is an asset; participates in oncall rotation
  • Provides leadership, mentoring, and assistance to other developers on the team.
  • performing cross-functional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned or requested
  • Works in compliance of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations, reporting hazards, deficiencies and contravention’s of the Act, in a timely manner. 

Knowledge Education:

  • Completion of an undergraduate degree or diploma in Computer Science or equivalent experience required.
  • Proficiency in C++/JAVA, J2EE, Google Web Toolkit (GWT), Hibernate,
  • Database technologies: Oracle, MS SQL Server, MySQL
  • JavaScript & CSS
  • Jenkins CI, Ansible, Svn/GIT, Atlassian suite
  • Understanding of HL7 standards an asset.
  • Linux/Unix admin, containers (LXD, Docker, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
