Product Manager, Business Development (Genetics)

The Product Manager will be an integral part of the General and Advanced Diagnostics Genetics group at LifeLabs and will drive growth for the products under their responsibility. The Product Manager will launch, implement, manage, track performance and grow genetic services/products in close collaboration with team members.

 

A successful LifeLabs Genetics Product Manager will have strong background knowledge in genetics, M.Sc or Ph.D. In addition to understanding the science and technology behind genetics products, the Product Manager will understand the clients’ needs and will be able to link both into growth opportunities. The incumbent will be a creative problem solver and a dynamic leader focused on results.

 

By developing a deep understanding of the market and clients’ needs, the Product Manager will drive the evolution and the implementation of product strategies in order to accelerate growth and gain market shares. The Product Manager is responsible to design and execute the yearly product strategy (Business Plan), including marketing campaigns, training and clients on-boarding. 

 

The Product Manager interacts closely with cross-functional teams at LifeLabs (marketing, sales, operations, medical and business intelligence) in order to drive success.

 

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in sciences and genetics, experience in medical/pharmaceutical sales, experienced in business casing, marketing and project management.

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Execute and measure

  • Execute the product plans through the year by:

Identifying clear value for the customer to support effective sales & marketing campaigns

Ensure all commercial requirements are clearly understood to ensure lab operation initiatives are linked to business growth

Acting as an SME to support sales in converting prospects to clients (physicians, corporation, hospitals) 

  • Budget management
  • Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, and Business Intelligence to track product performance through relevant indicators and develop plans to support ongoing improvements
  • Understand internal processes with Lab Ops, Bioinformatics and MedSci teams to identify areas of efficiency or cost saving, as well as trouble-shooting specific occurrences

Understand the market

  • Maintain a strong understanding of the genetic markets and clients’ needs across Canada.
  • Maintain knowledge of the regulatory environment, reimbursement, and competitive landscape and apply to business planning
  • Understand the strengths and weaknesses of a competitive offering to be able to articulate the unique values of LifeLabs services
  • Have regular exposure in-field with sales reps, patients, and healthcare providers

Strategic planning

  • Drive the innovation and development of new products and collaboration with internal stakeholders.
  • Develop and execute a Business Plan that will drive growth to reach financial objectives.
  • In alignment with the organization’s long-term strategy, identify and assess revenue opportunities

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Masters of Science in Genetics, molecular biology etc.
  • Master Degree (Ph.D., considered an asset)
  • Master’s degree in Health Administration, Business Administration, Finance, Management, Economics or equivalent considered an asset
  • Prior knowledge and experience within the health care/life sciences industries
  • 3-5 years of Product Management experience in a related field
  • Sales experience in genetics or molecular diagnostics is considered an asset
  • Product or service launch experience is a requirement
  • Demonstrated project management and business planning experience proven ability to gain support for and drive organizational strategies
  • Proven ability to use data to drive insights
  • Experience working in the genetic diagnostic field, including with organizations, health care providers, and/or patients to develop new products and services an asset
  • A detail and results-oriented self-starter with demonstrated analytical expertise
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a collaborative mindset
  • Strong MS Excel and PowerPoint skills
