Senior Linux Systems Administrator (Dev Ops)


This is a Contract position in Toronto, ON posted November 9, 2020.

We are presently recruiting for a Linux Systems Administrator DevOps.

This is a full time role and is located in the heart of the downtown Toronto core
– close to subway and GO Train.

Of course, 100% work from home during Covid.

– Ideal candidate will have experience in Linux, AWS, Ansible, and Kubernetes.

The Senior Linux Systems Administrator is responsible for the maintenance and administration of a high availability environment.

Administer daily operations of servers including log review, systems escalation, security patching and application upgrades.

Be part of a team that is transitioning technical operations from traditional administration and deployment management to infrastructure as application leveraging automation/configuration management technologies.

Specific Responsibilities:
•Responsible for administration of Redhat Linux systems, systems security tasks including security scanning, patching, systems hardening
•Responsible for validating proper approvals are documented for each request.

Ensure all communication and processes are clearly documented in assigned issues and tasks
•Responsible for configuring, adding and maintaining monitoring tools and inventory
•Responsible for integrating new technologies, transitioning operations from traditional administration and deployment to infrastructure as application leveraging automation/configuration management technologies
•Responsible for building and maintenance of container platforms such as Docker, Kubernetes
•Ensure defined procedures are followed for each task including verification processes for required applications
•Prepare for new product related releases and assists with new initiatives and upgrades
•Working in PCI environment, following proper security patching and system hardening
•Installation, set up, configuration and maintenance of Java Application Servers, Apache Web Servers, Cisco Firewalls, and Database Servers
•Rotational after-hours support with 24/7 pager duty and respond to alerts issued by our monitoring systems
•Occasional work after hours or weekends at our co-location facility Capability Requirements
– Education, Skills & Experience:
•Minimum 5-7 years’ experience in a small to mid-size software company in a Systems Administrator role
•Post-secondary education in Computer Science or technology support services or equivalent capability from relevant work experience
•Experience with VMware, Promox virtualization and network attached storage
•Strong technical problem solving skills and experience in IP networking and static routing FTP, SSH, SMTP, DNS, HTTP/S, DHCP
•Experience with container orchestration systems (Kubernetes, Amazon ECS, EKS, Rancher)
•Administer daily operations of servers including log review, systems escalation, patching and application upgrades
•Experience managing cloud based environments in AWS
•Experience with automation/configuration management tools using Ansible, Chef or an equivalent an asset
•Experience with Veritas Back-ups or similar tools, managing backup & restoration implementation and testing
•Experience with SNMP/Nagios/Managed Engine based Monitoring, Elastic Search and Grafana
•Strong background in Linux/Unix administration and understanding of code and script (PHP, Python, Perl)
•Experience with CISCO routers (ASA), firewalls (Fortinet) and Linux based firewall (IPTABLES/IPCHAINS)
•Experience with Oracle, PostgreSQL or Mongo database
•Communicate effectively with others both on a technical level and on a business level
•Team player and ability to work independently and effectively under pressure in a high paced and energetic environment
•Solid verbal and written communication skills
•Independent problem solver and self-starter
•Strong documentation abilities necessary to ensure timely problem resolution
•Timely decision making and organizational skills
