Job Description

Manulife is seeking a Solution Architect to join a growing technology organization. Ideal candidates for the role will bring experience in the finance domain. The architect is responsible for building and maintaining comprehensive business architecture and data models for finance, inclusive of, but not limited to:

  • Business Capability Models
  • Application and Capability Roadmaps
  • Value Streams
  • Business Operating Models

As Solution Architect, you will work to develop an integrated view of all in-scope business areas using a repeatable approach, cohesive framework, and available industry standard techniques. A key aspect of the role is to lead analysis of impacts to, and the maintenance of, business architecture artifacts in support of business process improvement initiatives and / or strategic business change projects.

The Solution Architect is responsible for:

  • Partner with Finance business subject matter experts to elicit business details and solve business problems through business architecture models that can be used as reference models by all business partners, IS and senior management
  • Working with business and IT to help build and maintain business capability models
  • Building business operating models for present state and, optimized future states
  • Analyzing current state operating models for potential areas of improvement
  • Performing gap analysis between the present state and future state
  • Building project and capability roadmaps to define a path to move from the current state to an optimized future state.
  • Assisting project execution teams with understanding and executing projects.
  • Building value streams.
  • Identifying and mapping applications and IS requests to the business capability model
  • Create and maintain data architecture, data management standards and conventions, data naming standards, and metadata standards
  • Provide input and consulting support including estimation on projects and road maps for compatibility with the enterprise vision of Enterprise Data Lake strategy.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Minimum 7-10 years related experience, with post-secondary education (preferably joint degree in Business/Commerce and Computer Science)
  • Experience delivering finance business architecture artifacts in organizations of similar size and complexity
  • Advanced skills and familiarity with tools for process and business architecture modeling (ex. Visio, Enterprise Architect, IBM Process Modeler (Lombardi), IBM Blueprint, etc)
  • Use of advanced techniques, standard tools and methodologies, such as: Agile, SOA, Object Oriented Analysis & Design, Business Capability Models, Value Streams
  • Expertise with Big data technologies and Hortonworks HADOOP in particular
  • Experience with integration of data from multiple data sources and knowledge of various ETL techniques and frameworks
  • Understanding of complex processes and subject matter, able to grasp and simplify the expression of complex scenarios in a way that helps partners get to solutions
  • Able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in written form
  • Strong work ethic, results oriented, and accuracy / attention to detail are critical
  • Demonstrated initiative, able to work both independently and as a team member
  • Able to design and conduct workshops that involve diverse business partner groups

Assets:

  • Financial Reporting, Treasury Cash Management, Accounts Payable and Asset Management knowledge would be a definite asset
  • Good understanding of basic IT principles such as databases, functions, UI, business rules, software systems.
