Microscopy Analyst & agricultural Sampler


This is a Part-time position in Toronto, ON posted April 5, 2021.

AIR is a Canadian company offering a preventive detection service for agricultural fungal diseases.

The program allows farmers to better manage the use of pesticides by following the principle of sustainable agriculture.

In collaboration with the environmental analysis laboratory Lab’Eau-Air-Sol.

First, the analyst position , under the supervision of the head-microbiologist of Lab’Eau-Air-Sol, consists of performing microbiological analyses according to the established sequence.

The analyst plays a central role in the success of the program and becomes a key player in our mandate to contribute to the safeguarding of the environment and to a healthier and more sustainable agriculture.

The analyst is responsible for a specific region assigned to him, and in particular for: Analyze samples on cassettes by microscopy Proceed with the required identifications Transmit data for report writing Ensures the supply of equipment for samplers in the territory(ies) Support and training, developed by Lab’Eau-Air-Sol, are offered in-house to meet the requirements of the AIR program.

All of this is done in an intensive 2 to 3 training session.

In a second step, the agricultural sampler is a key position to successfully obtain the analysis of the health of an agricultural environment.

The person on duty thus becomes a front-line worker to participate in sustainable agriculture and help us meet the mandate of working towards a healthier environment.

The job consists, after identifying an agricultural site, of taking the required air samples on cassettes for the AIR program.

These cassettes, analyzed by the analyst, will make it possible to detect fungal diseases in crops even before the effects are visible or damage is too advanced, notably through the spore identification method.

Specifically, you will have to: Take air samples in the field according to a preestablished protocol Verify the operational status of weather stations and other equipment during the season Front line customer service by being present in the field.

Required skills:
· Bachelor degree or college diploma in sciences (microbiology, biology, or related fields)
· Significant experience in microscopy is mandatory
· Strong report writing skills.

· Have access to a vehicle and have a valid driver’s license
· Good physical shape
· Bilingualism, both written and oral.

· Experience in air quality and environmental microbiology
· Experience in the agricultural field.

Working conditions
· Schedule 30-40 hours per week
· Fixed-term contract from May to October
· Hourly salary to be determined according to experience and training
