Job Description:

The Sales Assistant is primarily accountable for providing support for business acquisition and retention activities. Takes ownership for all calls by triaging and ensuring first call resolution to the satisfaction of clients/advisors; able to proficiently communicate to clients/advisors alternative solutions – within guidelines – by reviewing and interpreting plan and policy documents, Focus update bulletins and/or relevant legislation bulletins distributed by Sun Life.  Role also includes preparation of proposals and finalist presentations. This role begins in a Band 3 level with a structured 2 year education path providing the employee with the ability to work their way to a Band 4.

Key Accountabilities

  • Receives and responds to complex and/or escalated client inquiries and uses sound business judgment within defined practices and procedures.
  • Elevates client’s issues, concerns and opinions to the forefront in all interactions with operational areas within Sun Life.
  • Composes and/or prepares all correspondence as agreed upon with AE and/or Service Rep.
  • Requests and prepares reports upon request from an advisor or client
  • Updates and ensures internal reporting and tracking tools are maintained with accurate and up to date information
  • Collaborates with the AE in the preparation of finalist presentations
  • Compiles relevant documents for the renewal package, which may include the Financial reports and Exhibits and current plan statistics
  • Acts as a back up representative to the clients for the AE and Service Rep. as required responding to inquiries and acting as a point of contact for service delivery
  • Ensures electronic filing of correspondence and data is documented

  • Planning and organization – organizes own work to meet agreed upon deadlines.

Job Specific Knowledge

  • Solid understanding and knowledge of the array of Group Benefits products
  • Good working knowledge of the Group Benefits divisional structure to be able to navigate appropriately
  • Solid relationship building/management skills
  • Proficient knowledge of various legislative guidelines with the ability to articulate appropriately in response to inquiries from clients or advisors
  • Solid knowledge of the sales office distribution system, sales practices and procedures
  • Strong organization skills
  • Solution oriented person – the ability to identify and understand a client issue and then determine an appropriate solution to implement
  • Ability to multi-task within a fast paced environment while maintaining a high degree of accuracy
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize competing requests/tasks
  • Expert in Word, PowerPoint and Excel

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or higher and /or 3-6 years business experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Degree or diploma preferred
  • PC Skills and expert in Work, PowerPoint and Excel

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
