 Leads and oversees Insurance in Canada ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. The role is critical in capturing the full potential for Creditor Insurance Sales through the direct (retail and small business network) and alternative distribution channels (Home Financing Soluitions, Scotia Mortgage Authority and third party mortgage brokers).



  • Lead the development and monitor the effectiveness of sales strategies for the retail and small business branch network, indirect channels, and Senior Regional Insurance Managers (direct/indirect) and the Direct to Consumer Business (Home and Auto; Life and Health; Travel)
  • Strategy Development – Develop and execute training and coaching strategies, and new tools and resources to support the business unit operate more efficiently and effectively to meet their sales targets. Must be able to balance ever increasing change and will work on continuously improving the operational effectiveness and performance of all front line distribution channels; with a heavy focus on Branch, Contact Centres (incl 3rd party), Home Financing Solutions, Scotia Mortgage Authority
  • Strategic Recommendations – Develop recommendations to drive business results while delivering an exceptional customer experience, balancing profitability and governance and controls. The Director will provide advice and guidance to the Insurance Canada team and broader Retail business partners in implementing successful sales training programs to deliver sales results across multiple products while focusing on customer in right offer/right product. Must ensure all content is consistent with the Bank’s Global Sales Principles, meets sales practices, regulatory and market guidelines.
  • Partnership Management – The Director will act as the point of escalation and contact with key internal stakeholders and partner groups to ensure that the strategic priorities of the business unit, in alignment with Personal and Small Business Banking strategies, are understood and achieved
  • Strong Leader – Provide leadership and effective management of business unit staff to influence employee commitment to the organization, to the team, and to their job. The Director will provide guidance and direction for resolving difficult or complex problems, engaging appropriate stakeholders as needed and implementing action plans to address.  Ensures the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls are in place to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Highly Influential – Highly-developed influencing skills / relationship building skills sufficient to implement change in situations involving matters of major business policy

 Education / Experience :


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business and/or MBA or advanced degree preferred
  • Significant creditor insurance experience is highly preferred
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks at once, with limited support.
  • Excellent planning and strategic thinking skills, with solid understanding of P/L levers
  • Experience in relationship management
  • Highly proficient at power point with the ability to build out robust strategies and forward looking plans
  • Strong project manager with the ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong ability to influence without direct authority
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to disseminate key ideas and information to SRIMs and Leadership in branches, HFS and SMA, in a simple and effective manner
  • Thorough understanding of insurance and financial planning concepts, sales and marketing
  • Excellent knowledge of branch sales and services processes (i.e. C.E.M. & TotalView)
  • PFP, CFP, LLQP, AMP are preferred
