Job Description

Credit Investment Operations performs functions that are integral to the end to end transaction life cycle processes that support CPP Investments’ activities in both private public credit markets.  Credit Investment Operations also executes independent controls to meet our organization’s good governance practices. Manager/Senior Manager Loan Closer as part of Investment Operation – Credit Investment is responsible for overseeing settlement related functionality, productivity, efficiency and quality while ensuring standard policies and governance rules under CPP Investments are in compliant.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Leading a team that specializes in all aspects of private credit investment onboarding/closing process
  • Review applicable loan documents, such as credit agreement, Loan Purchase Agreement, Participation Agreement etc. to ensure that it accurately describe loan/structured products and remain in compliance with the company policy and procedures.  
  • Review and approve Trade Confirm, Assignment Agreement, Funding Memo on Markit settlement platform (ClearPar).
  • Coordinate trade settlement process with internal legal, tax and front office to complete KYC requirements and other ad hoc support.
  • Liaise with IHS Markit and Agent banks to facilitate loan closing in a timely manner and manage high volume and high dollar value exposure.
  • Manage cash flow projections and determine cash needs regarding closed loans, pipelines, capital calls and distributions.
  • Participate deal onboarding processes for complicated structed deals, levered portfolios and non-performing loan portfolios and provide recommendations as to settlement processes and legal languages.
  • Provides oversight on budgeting and costs associated with loan closing.
  • Maintain metrics on Trade Closings and monitor key performance indicators on the closing process for senior management and serve as an escalation contact for issues that may arise.
  • Create, enhance and maintain key settlement procedures for the team.
  • Build strong relationships with credit investment departments to support investment strategies while ensuring the overall investment operations to maintain integrity and controls


  • 10+ years of experience supporting global asset manager across a broad spectrum of private credit asset classes
  • Acute sense of priority/urgency to vendors, agent banks and deal team’s requirements
  • Ability to adapt to market changes and conditions
  • Experience developing and supporting globally dispersed credit portfolio managers through the full asset onboarding and closing process
  • A track record of effectively partnering with the Investment Departments and Finance teams on fund development and deal closings
  • Deep subject matter expertise with complex loan amendments and restructurings and supporting all aspects of new and complex investment activities (structured credit and loan financing)
  • Thorough understanding of the issues relevant to a multi-asset class portfolio management business, such as the use of derivatives, trade settlement, securities lending, implementation of new products and strategies
  • Proven interpersonal skills; strong communication skills (oral and written)
  • Possess a strong client service orientation and strong relationship skills.
  • Superior and demonstrated analytical skills and the ability to think through problems and recommend solutions.
  • Experience with Markit/ClearPar, Wall Street Office, SimCorp Dimension, or other trade capture & settlement system is an asset.
  • An undergraduate/advanced degree in business or economics is expected. A professional designation such as CFA/A CA/CMA/CPA is an asset, but not required.
