Production Manager

CASCADES CONTAINERBOARD PACKAGING The Containerboard Packaging Group, a division of Cascades, is the largest containerboard producer in Canada, and is also a top converter of corrugated products in the country.

The Group manufactures a wide range of products made from recycled fibres for its North American customers in the food, beverage and consumer products sectors, among many others.

The Division, which employs close to 3,400 people, owns six containerboard mills and nineteen corrugated products plants in Canada and the United States.

Your Challenge The Production Manager will be accountable for the safe and efficient production of corrugate sheets and the management of the converting process within the plant.

The Production Manager will lead the Production Team in the achievement of production key performance indicators (KPIs).

Job Responsibilities Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Production Manager will have the following main responsibilities: Oversee the CCP-Richmond Safety Program and ensure that safe operating procedures are followed throughout the production process Investigate and correct, without delay, any outstanding hazard reports, incident investigations and any other unsafe conditions within the facility Participate in monthly safety meetings and facilitate the daily production meeting Manage, engage and facilitate strong labour relations with all unionized and non-unionized employees Work with the production team to ensure that all production KPIs are met
– develop, optimize and improve machinery productivity and equipment processes Lead production CapEX projects to improve machine performance and productivity Identify any maintenance requirements for equipment and support maintenance with the preventative maintenance (PM) schedule Coach and lead the Production Supervisor Team Job Qualifications The successful candidate will display the following qualifications for the role: Bachelors Degree in Operations Management, Mechanical Engineering or other related field of study 7
– 10 years experience in a manufacturing environment in a manager/supervisor role
– Corrugate experience will be considered an asset Must possess experience in a management role within a Unionized environment P.

Eng will be considered an asset A Black Belt or Green Belt Certification will be considered an asset A strong background in safety management is necessary Display strong leadership and coaching skills Display strong communication and organizational skills Experience working with SAP, CTI and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) will be considered an asset Business Objectives Alignment Help develop and implement an operational strategy that is aligned with his/her unit’s business strategy Meet the manufacturing objectives in the unit’s business strategy Operational Excellence Develop an action plan to maximize standardized manufacturing efficiency in his/her sector and optimize resources Develop good relationships with business partners Develop processes and tools to support and drive continuous improvement in his/her sector Devise and implement standardized manufacturing practices and procedures related to his/her department’s objectives Ensure sound management of operating costs and maximize the return on assets under his/her responsibility Maximize synergy and foster collaboration among Cascades’ groups, units and business units Help meet operational efficiency goals Human Resources Design and implement a talent development and succession strategy for his/her department, in collaboration with Human Resources Build a team of competent and dedicated people whose skills complement one another Ensure that the work flow and job structure are tailored to his/her sector’s needs Manage and engage his/her staff based on Cascades’ values and business strategy Health & Safety Accept the full responsibility that comes with his/her position in line with Cascades’ OSH requirements Help set OSH priorities for his/her sector in line with corporate objectives and follow up on them Insist on and create a safe and healthy work environment for all employees in his/her sector Promote sound occupational health and safety management Personally commit to and display strong leadership in health and safety Corporate Responsibility and Governance Make sure governance rules are followed and responsibilities are carried out Ensure the sustainable and responsible development of the unit Insist on ethical conduct and uphold the values underlying Cascades’ corporate culture Client Focused and Innovation Ensure support for business relationships and provide technical support when requested by clients Keep abreast of manufacturing best practices and new technologies and share them within the organization Support the sector’s innovation objectives Core competencies defined for this job Change management Coaching Decision-making Perseverance Planning and organizing Team leadership Education Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management or Engineering Desired experience The successful candidate will display the following experience: 7
– 10 years experience in a manufacturing environment in a Manager/Supervisor role
– Corrugate experience will be considered an asset Experience in a Management role within a Unionized environment Technical competencies The succesful candidate will display working knowledge of SAP, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and CTI.

Additional information The successfull candidate may be required to travel throughout the Western Region for meetings, conferences and training (Calgary, Alberta and Winnipeg, Manitoba).

They may also be required to travel to other CCP business units in Eastern Canada (Ontario and Quebec).
