Senior Analyst, Operational Risk Management

Job Description

Operational Risk Management (ORM) is under the direction of the Global Head of Operational Risk Management, who is responsible for vision and strategy for the Company’s Operational Risk Management Program.

This position is the Senior Analyst, Operational Risk Management, who will report directly to the AVP, Group Operational Risk Management. The position will assist in the development of enterprise-wide processes and guidelines covering risk identification, assessment, measurement, monitoring and reporting.  This position will operate across multiple businesses, functions, and geographies, to promote awareness and execution of ORM requirements.

Group ORM programs support the management of operational risk in a consistent manner across the enterprise.  We are a global function supporting business units in North America, Asia and Europe. Information generated by our programs is used to make critical business decisions and allows the Board Risk Committee to effectively oversee risk taking activities within Manulife.

Key Responsibilities:

The incumbent’s role will be to contribute to the ongoing enhancement and maintenance Manulife’s Operational Risk Management program and its underlying components, including the development of enterprise-wide processes and guidelines covering risk identification, assessment, measurement, monitoring and reporting, and risk control and mitigation. The incumbent will work primarily with Group Risk Management and other functions across the Company.

Key accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Contributing to the enhancement and maintenance the Operational Risk Management framework, including the development and ongoing execution of risk identification, assessment and reporting processes for managing risk profile;

  • Providing support to a variety of operational risk management program deliverables, including development of new processes and guidelines;

  • Providing Archer Program Support, including assisting with the Archer system initiatives (e.g. data analysis, business requirements, data clean up, user acceptance testing and validation), enhancements, creating and maintaining report templates and access security;

  • Assist with ad-hoc and monthly risk reporting, memos and presentations including but not limited to constructing charts and gathering data for Committees and Senior Management reports;

  • Identifying opportunities for creating efficiencies within ORM program’s framework and processes;

  • Project management activities;

  • Support ad hoc requests as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • University degree in a relevant field / OR Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience /OR University undergraduate degree in Business; a financial designation is considered an asset;

  • Broad knowledge of financial services/insurance business and functions;

  • Strong writing, communication and “story telling” skills; ability to use tact and diplomacy in dealing with others;

  • Ability to learn quickly and be agile to change;

  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently;

  • Strong management reporting experience with attention to detail, executing with high precision under very tight deadlines;

  • Strong data, computer and analytical skills particularly PowerPoint, Excel and Word (Archer experience is considered an asset);

  • Highly organized individual with strong time management and organizational skills;

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy;

  • Ability to use judgment and initiative in anticipating and solving problems;

  • Excellent teamwork and good relationship management skills. Ability to build relationships and collaborate with the business unit; While Operational Risk experience is considered as an asset, it is not a requirement.
